Hi everyone. Well, we’ve crested the ‘Hump’ of the week and only have two days to go until the weekend. For my latest dose of fitness inspiration I thought I’d give you all a very different smoothie to the last one. You can try this over the next few days and I guarantee you’ll feel great for it.

As the title says, this is a green smoothie, thanks to the whole kiwi (Peeled of course. I don’t want any fur in my smoothie!), a big handful of spinach, but mainly the spirulina. If too much spirulina is added it can make a smoothie a bit sludgy, so I only use a small amount. I use organic of course. Spirulina is one of the oldest forms of food on the planet and it’s said that it’s so nutrient dense that you could live on just it (plus water) alone. Don’t worry, I’m not suggesting anyone tries that! We all need the odd small glass of white wine here and there!

The spirulina powder I use is 65% protein. It also contains B-vitamins, calcium, magnesium and iron, so along with the spinach, chia seeds, banana and fruit juice, this smoothie really is the complete package! It’ll kick start your body in the morning and give you the energy you need to turn your back on sugary cereals for good!

My smoothie turned out quite thick, which I don’t mind, but you may want to also add 30-50ml’s of water if you prefer a thinner smoothie?

A big percentage of the population is protein deficient, so if you don’t fancy eating more meat, spirulina may be a way of upping your protein intake?

Enjoy the rest of your week, and remember, go green!

Jenny
